Do something just for fun ~ Pleasure is one of life’s essential nutrients.

Swadhisthana, sacral plexus chakra
2nd Chakra, Swadhisthana

The 2nd chakra, the sacral center, is all about pleasure. According to Sonia Choquette, “this energy center… beckons our spirit into the earthly experience through emotion, desire, sexuality, sensuality, feeling and pleasure.”

An out-of-balance 2nd chakra is not good. Signs that your 2nd chakra may be out of balance include:

  1. losing touch with or ignoring what your body is telling you (living in your head),
  2. neglecting your self-care needs,
  3. pushing beyond your limits,
  4. fear of change,
  5. overly emotional or non-feeling,
  6. addictions to food, alcohol, etc.
  7. and adopting a utilitarian approach to life.

… many of us have been raised in environments where our needs were met but our desires weren’t, so we continue to ignore our desires as well. Our vitality, our sensual nature, however, isn’t about need. It’s about generosity and flow. When we have a difficult time receiving we block the flow of life. (Choquette, True Balance; A Commonsense Guide for Renewing the Spirit.)

What is PLEASURE? According to the dictionary it is:

  • a feeling of happiness, enjoyment, or satisfaction : a pleasant or pleasing feeling.
  • activity that is done for enjoyment.
  • something or someone that causes a feeling of happiness, enjoyment, or satisfaction.

Personally, I find PLEASURE in spending time with my family (most of the time) and friends. I also enjoy a good piece of chocolate (DB Infusion), my weekly massage, epsom salt baths, romantic movies, quilt shops, being around small babies and small children, and comfortable bedding (Marriott hotels).

I own two “Life is Good” t-shirts and I smile each time that I wear them. (Well, that’s random, Peggy!)

My list goes on and on. There was a time when I focused so much on my career and the needs of others that I neglected my own desires. I was driven and expected everyone else to work as hard as I did. It was exhausting…. and I became ill.

Like so many others I view my illness as a gift and my teacher. It has forced me to re-examine my life… to really define and learn self-care… to allow PLEASURE.

What about you? Do you make time for PLEASURE?
